Astrology and Purification of the Body – a Physical and Astrological Remedy

A moment during a Puja

A Clean or Purified Body Has a Different Vibration and Enhances Useful Planetary Influences

In Vedic Astrology, a healthy diet is also connected with the atmosphere within the family.

Both of these aspects are represented by the second House of the Birth Chart.

Our “civilised” society has produced and encouraged, over Time, eating habits that are often not very useful to the Body. This kind of diet can leave consequences that are not immediately visible and, in the traditional Indian interpretation, can nourish the qualities of Tamas and Rajas.

In Jyotisha there is also a symbolic relationship between foods and the Planets.

An excess of red meat, for example, may nourish the more tamasic component of Mars; a Sattvic diet instead supports the higher qualities associated with Jupiter; herbs and green leafy salads are traditionally connected with Mercury, and so on.

The use of substances that profoundly alter the Body and mind can also create dependence and lead us to seek again what produced that same alteration.

A similar mechanism may occur with junk food, which is often designed precisely to stimulate the desire to consume more of it continually.

Through Vedic Astrology it is also possible to observe, in the Birth Chart, the Person’s relationship with food and nourishment.

Kali Yuga, Mind and Nutrition

Let us remember that, according to the Indian Tradition, we live in the Kali Yuga, a period in which disorder, confusion and what we might symbolically call “poison” tend to manifest on many planes.

In this context, strong Will is required in order to remain in contact with one’s own Soul.

What we introduce into the mind every day also becomes a form of nourishment.

Social media, for example, can easily become containers of anger, conflict and dissatisfaction.

In this way a sort of psychological poison is produced, becoming food for the mind and, in turn, capable of generating further poison.

It is a cycle that can be interrupted through greater Awareness, Good Will and also through the tools offered by Jyotisha.

Junk Food and Vedic Astrology – Why Do We Have This Kind of Food?

Many industrial foods are designed to offer immediate pleasure while they are being consumed and to stimulate the desire to eat more.

This may represent a particularly strong temptation, for example, for someone whose Birth Chart shows an astrological connection between the second House and the twelfth House, or for someone with Venus in difficult conditions together with a damaged second House.

These are, of course, astrological examples.

In the Kali Yuga, Souls also arrive who are strongly in tune with experiences of suffering and disharmony, and who may reproduce these same dynamics through different forms of habituation.

When many People simultaneously enter the same Vibration, what we might call a flywheel effect, or an egregore, may form and in turn exert pressure upon those whose mental structure is more fragile.

In the Birth Chart this type of vulnerability may be observed, for example, through a poorly placed Mercury or a suffering Moon.

Another part of humanity may therefore be attracted to junk food and other forms of nourishment that are not particularly useful.

If we consider that the Kali Yuga is traditionally described as an Age in which fraud, violence, deception, cruelty and other similar characteristics become particularly present, many phenomena in our society acquire a different meaning.

Ayurveda, Vedic Astrology and the Quality of the Mind

Ayurveda and Vedic Astrology are deeply connected within the Indian Tradition.

Both regard the Body, mind and environment as parts of a larger system.

An unsuitable diet may encourage habits that become increasingly difficult to change and contribute to building a mind and Body that do not function to the best of their possibilities.

Junk food

If we add to this continual exposure to strongly negative information — murders, accidents, violence, catastrophes and traumatic images — we can easily understand how much all this may affect the quality of Life.

Try, for example, to eat joyfully immediately after watching a long sequence of news stories of this kind.

In the language of Jyotisha, a difficult combination involving Mercury and the first House may describe a condition in which mind and Body struggle to function harmoniously.

In these situations, it becomes easier to encounter continual problems at work, friction with colleagues, tensions within the family and other obstacles.

To our eyes, everything may appear to be simply the consequence of stress, a holiday that went badly, insufficient money or other external causes.

But Jyotisha also seeks to observe the deeper structure operating behind those experiences.

A part of humanity still possesses a certain balance, while another part wishes to rediscover it through the great Awakening that this Kali Yuga can produce. A great battle is underway.

Purification

What Is a Healthy Person Like in Vedic Astrology?

Very strong but poorly placed Planets in the Birth Chart may represent one or more disharmonious vibrations that dominate within the Person.

That Vibration is carried with us into the environments we frequent and may encourage the creation of similar situations.

At that point, the feeling can easily arise that Life itself is negative.

We become convinced that problems arrive exclusively from outside, while we may instead be constantly tuned to People and situations that resonate with our own karmic configuration.

Maya is always at work and is one of the supporting pillars of the Kali Yuga.

A Person in good physical and mental condition generally has greater possibilities of making useful choices in Life and obtaining valid results for themselves and for others.

A society composed of healthy individuals has greater possibilities of generating healthy children and more balanced situations.

Is It Possible to Modify the Effects of the Planets?

The question then arises naturally:

is it possible to overwrite, or at least modify, the effects of adverse Planets?

Yes, it is possible.

But not in the simplistic sense of “free will” that is often discussed in the Western world or in certain New Age interpretations.

The ancient Yoga of India teaches precisely the work upon the mind and upon the physical processes of the Body.

Vedic Astrology and Ayurveda represent other channels through which the same objective of knowledge, rebalancing and transformation can be pursued.

But who is truly a healthy Person?

Is it someone who makes useful choices in Life?

Someone who chooses foods that are useful to the Body?

Someone who spends time with People capable of offering something more than simply sharing an evening at the pub?

Someone who no longer needs continually to seek an external Guru because they have found the Guru within themselves?

Usually around the age of forty many of these questions begin to arise.

Jyotisha as a Map in the Mist

How can we find the road when everything appears immersed in mist?

At first, we need a suitable compass.

Vedic Astrology, or Jyotisha, can become a great Map within the mists of Life.

A Body weighed down by an unhealthy diet, to which cigarettes, alcohol, continually disturbing images, violent films and news filled with negativity are added, may become a Body and mind saturated with what we might call “waste”.

Only after beginning progressively to free ourselves from this waste can we start to perceive a difference and understand what it means to live in a way that is more coherent with ourselves.

A Life that has real meaning.

A Life useful to ourselves and to others.

A Life that offers valid reasons for being lived.
