Ancestors and Parents
A Soul arrives in this world and a child is born
At every moment many Souls arrive, many Doors open so that these children of Karma, these children, may come here.
Every moment of Time possesses a different quality, just as the Souls who arrive are different.
When a child is born, the questions usually begin immediately. Who does the baby look like? Is the nose the father’s? The eyes the mother’s? Do the hair or features resemble a grandfather or grandmother?
Then the imagination begins to run ahead. We picture the child on the first day of school, wonder what classmates will be met, what teachers there will be, and then we think about adolescence, which for many parents represents one of the most demanding periods.
And when they grow up?
What will they become? What will they do in Life?
A doctor, an engineer, a writer? Who knows.
The imagination of parents naturally tends to move within their own vision of Life and, very often, within what we ourselves would like for them.
Common thinking still easily leads us to believe:
“If you have a qualification, you will certainly be able to do something in Life.”
But will that child really want to study? Or will there be different abilities, qualities that do not necessarily need the famous “piece of paper”?
The Manual of Life
How often do we hear people say:
“Ah, if only I had done it differently…”
or:
“If I had chosen differently back then, today I would be doing something completely different…”
In the culture of modern countries, we are often led to believe that everything is exclusively the result of the rational choices we made yesterday.
If you choose to become an engineer, you will work as an engineer. If you study enough, you will certainly have a good job. If you do all the “right” things, you will necessarily obtain a particular result.
Yet it is enough to observe Reality to understand that the Path is far more complex.
Many People with university degrees do not work in the field for which they studied, and many People who left a profound mark on history did not necessarily possess the qualifications we might have imagined indispensable.
What, then, takes us upwards or downwards? What allows one Person to obtain a result while another is able only to desire it? Which tools must we learn to master?
We always reap the fruit of our Actions, but not always the fruit of Actions that our present memory is able to recall.
There is also no Manual of Life telling us exactly what to do in every situation. Each Person must gradually write that Manual for themselves.
What, then, can we give to the children who arrive? What can we teach them so that they may begin and continue their own Path in the most useful way?
Children and Mirrors
Children absorb a great deal of what we are, and the Birth Chart tells us this. They absorb our doubts, our contradictions, our strengths, our fragilities, our entire inner world.
Children also absorb the world of what remains unspoken.
What parents do not consciously transmit through words may still arrive through behaviour, silences, fears, tensions, desires, contradictions and ways of reacting to Life.
The child gradually forms a synthesis of all this through the Karma indicated by the Planets, processes it and will begin to experience it within their own Life.
Why do children so often make their parents deeply angry? Sometimes a simple remark is enough to provoke an enormous reaction.
Think of a mirror. When we put on an outfit and look at ourselves in the mirror, if something does not please us, we can change it. But when a Person becomes our mirror and shows us something about ourselves that we do not want to recognise, what do we do?
Children are probably the most truthful mirror that exists for a parent, and the same child will be a different mirror for the father and for the mother.
The child has absorbed part of the inner world of both parents, has processed it through their own Nature and will use it as material along their own Path.
Adolescence and the Energies that awaken
When adolescence arrives, very powerful vital Energies are physiologically activated.
The young Person still has to learn how to recognise and manage them, and it is precisely during this phase that many of the contradictions absorbed during childhood may emerge with greater force.
But parents too, when they passed through their own adolescence, had to confront the unconscious structures received from their own parents, and those structures were not always understood even later in adult Life.
Thus a long continuity is created, a transmission passing from generation to generation until someone is able to see it clearly.
What do parents transmit to their children?
What parents essentially transmit to their children also includes the psychological structure built throughout their own Path.
That whole inner world in which many things coexist:
contradictions, unresolved situations, old wounds, joys, fears, hopes, successes and defeats.
The heat and cold experienced in Life remain within the Person who becomes a parent.
We have not always been able to understand them fully or give them a meaning capable of dissolving those contradictions.
The good and the difficult aspects of Life, the night and day of our hopes, our dawns and our sunsets are still there, and part of this heritage is transmitted from parent to child.
The chain can continue until one of the descendants becomes Conscious of it, observes those mechanisms, understands them, illuminates them and gradually dissolves them in the Light of Truth entering their own Consciousness.
That Light begins within the Person, then reaches the family, spreads around them and may also propagate along the lineage from which that Person comes.
The world contains deep interconnections among all living Beings.
What is Birth?
Birth is a Journey.
When we prepare for a journey, we carefully choose what to place in our luggage according to the places we intend to visit.
We prepare what we will need, think about the experiences we wish to have and, in some way, create a plan.
From the same perspective, the meeting between parents and the children who will arrive is not accidental.
The first true meeting does not necessarily take place at the moment of physical birth. It has already occurred, in other Places and other Times, when the sharing of an extremely important part of the Path was prepared through fundamental roles:
parents and children.
Mirra Alfassa, known as Mère, taught that the Soul descends into the Body during the twelfth week.
Everything we encounter in Life is connected with our choices and our Karma, even when we possess no conscious memory of what gave rise to them.
The children who will arrive are also part of this Path.
The Child’s Birth Chart
Vedic Astrology can help us trace this Map.
Through the Birth Chart we can observe the child’s Path, their predispositions, difficulties, abilities and the experiences towards which they may be more strongly oriented.
We can try to understand:
what their Karmic Path may be, which experiences they may have to pass through, what their qualities are, which areas are more delicate, what Message they bring to their parents, how their Life may interact with theirs and what their Role in the world may be.
The Birth Chart therefore does not serve only to ask:
“What will they do when they grow up?”
It may serve above all to understand:
“Who is this Soul that has arrived in our Life?”
And:
“What are we being called to understand together?”
A Shared Journey
A child is not simply someone to educate. A child is a Person with a Path of their own, a Soul who arrives with their own story and, at the same Time, becomes part of the story of the parents.
Growth therefore does not move in only one direction.
Parents accompany their children, but children also accompany their parents.
It is a shared Journey in which we must gradually learn to recognise the meaning of the signs we encounter along the Way.
It is not always a honeymoon…
Vedic Astrology can become a precious Map precisely because it allows us to observe that Path before many of its meanings become evident through the events of Life.
