Leo as the Ascendant Sign in Vedic Astrology
A Fire Astrological Sign, ruled by the Sun. Willpower and strength of character are strongly present, together with pride, boldness, ambition, and regal qualities. These are the characteristic traits of this Zodiac Sign when there is a good balance at the Ascendant and in the Natal Chart as a whole. If the Leo Ascendant is afflicted, there are problems whose strength and quality depend on the type of affliction, such as the presence, for example, of one of the Nodes, namely Rahu or Kethu, or the Aspect of a malefic planet that has great strength and is in a condition to harm, that is, to “provide” difficulties. All these situations are nevertheless part of the Karma to be understood and transcended.
Those who have the Ascendant in the Sign of Leo are, broadly speaking, the kind of person who steps into the front line with their chest out (in the more extreme cases), or who shines when defending principles that have been trampled upon.
If the characteristics of Strength are not also present in the Natal Chart, this Person has to experience a certain fragility, that is, they suffer when there is no approval around them, when they do not feel accepted.
This fragility is also expressed through the heart, which may be subject to problems. The heart is in fact usually a weak point for the Sign of Leo.
The Sign of Leo in general has a strong tendency towards dominance (but less pronounced than Aries, another Fire Astrological Sign), loves to build the world in which it wants to act, and has aspirations based on very high models. When the target is not hit, that is, when there are many difficulties in reaching the goals that had been set, depression may be just around the corner, and inner suffering can be strong.
The Astrological Sign of Leo, when it is well placed at the Ascendant and the Natal Chart has a balance that allows it, gives a Person who shines for just causes, always ready to defend the weak and to support a good social balance with wisdom, within the environment in which they live.
